TWENTY-NINE

His silence shut me down rather than the words that fell out of his mouth. Shouldn’t I go after him? And do what... chase him like shadow?

A life like mine, there’s no such thing as happiness, in it. How can I be so dumb and still look for it? What I see in this obscurity is hands that smell like blood and cigarette and not roses and Phoenix.

But I want to run from this reality, hide in a box, a reality where I broke a pure heart, a heart of gold, something I never had,

something I can never have,

something I will never have.

Because that’s me, a demon, a young demon, who voluntarily chooses the moon over the sun,

the dark over bright,

and the night over daylight.

I sniffled, not wanting to bawl but it’s like the chains that were tying me are now broken, letting my spirit roam free and the first thing it wants, is to cry.

Because my only hope of gaiety is gone, because the smile I had had only lasted a few seconds, the dreams I saw will become nightmares because I’ll be in it... alone.

“Are you crying, angel?” A hand groped mine, blocking my way. A hand that scented like blood, death and rage.

A hand that brought me here, a hand that’s hurting me and a hand that’s always gonna hurt me.

“Cry? What’s that?” I smiled still not matching eyes with him. Because if I do, he’ll see it but then again, Levi notices even the tiniest bit of detail.

My mind went blank, I could see nothing, the time when I drowned myself in the water, he knew that I had slept with someone.

Why didn’t he kill Archie then? D—-does it mean Archie is high-octane than Levi?

“Are you not?” He lifted my face up, his hand on my chin, the scent grew stronger. He had killed someone, probably those men they were talking about.

Levi can’t find Archie, how funny... because Archie was roaming around his manor like nothing. Should I really laugh at Levi’s helplessness or cry about the muddle I am in.

Should I be wary of him or Archie? Who’s more perilous?

“Don’t we call them tears?” His thumb wiped a drop of it off my cheeks.

“What happened?” He wasn’t joking anymore, he wants an answer,

an answer I don’t have,

probably, don’t have the nerve to say it.

“Dust—-” I tried to voice but he intercepted.

“Let’s no roam around the clichés, just tell me what really happened.”

His gaze fixated at mine; he won’t let go until I give him what he wants. I don’t have the strength to fight him either.

“Who hurt you?” He gritted his jaw, losing his patience, if only I knew who did. Was it Phoenix’s words, was it his silence, or was it me, myself?

“You did... just go away now...” I slammed my knees in his abdomen and slapped his hand away from mine.

I ran, not looking back, I heard a few coughs here and there, “Angel...” His yell crooked into a roar but I had no intention of stopping.
